travelling tips

Woohoo, it’s holiday time!

Going on holiday is such an exciting time, but I know it can be daunting taking your baby out of their comfort zone, and not to mention everything you need to pack! Don’t let that deter you, it will be worth it!

Here are my top travelling tips :

  • try book an overnight flight if it's a long flight

  • pack your bedding from home that baby has slept in for a night or 2, so its familiar

  • take extra bottles and formula if bottle feeding

  • some babies need feeding on take off and landing to help their ears with the pressure

  • dress your baby in layers, makes it easier to keep them warm/cool

  • pack extra clothes for you and your baby in case either of you need an outfit change

  • change their nappy before the flight to lessen the on-flight nappy changes

  • you can never have enough muslins

  • if your baby is on solids, pack lots of age appropriate snacks to keep them busy

  • pack some new toys, and some familiar ones that you know they like

  • books, an ipad and headphones and sticker books are great plane activities

How to adapt their routine?

  • an earlier bedtime on night 1 usually helps your little one (and you) to get some good rest after travelling

  • try and stick to their nap routine and awake windows while away, but if timings are a bit off - that's ok

  • if you want a later bedtime to take them out for dinner, consider a later afternoon nap

  • naps on the move are great on holiday

  • create a similar bedtime environment like white noise, sleeping bag and a dark room

  • if you are taking a travel cot, practice using it at home for a few naps, so it's familiar for your baby
